Volunteer opportunities

Teaching Opportunities
ACTS offers opportunities for you to assist in teaching nursery, primary and secondary school children. Youths who have dropped out of school or are victims of other injustices need empowerment in with vocational skills. Volunteers can train them in nursery teaching, hairdressing, cookery, tailoring, welding, carpentry, plumbing, computer as well as entrepreneurial or other skills that are relevant to their survival in communities.
NGO Management

ACTS welcomes volunteers with administrative, clerical and resource mobilization skills to assist in building governance and management capacities of ACTS. We particularly welcome those with expertise in fundraising and project development to assist us and our community groups in developing and managing projects

Community Initiatives

Many of our volunteers spend a significant time in the rural communities surrounding Mbale to set up projects that can sustainably help the local communities. There is really not limit to what projects/businesses one wants to set up, although most revolve around the vibrant agricultural sector in the greater Mt. Elgon area. Most recently a poultry farm was set up, whose income supports one of our primary schools.

Our volunteers will be able to become part of our communities and learn about local cultures and traditions. Our close links to the community enables us to allow volunteers to fully immerse themselves in the Ugandan way of life. In the local bars in Mbale our volunteers also often meet other Muzungus (whites and/or westerners) and can exchange their ideas and experiences.

Funding

The organization has a small financial resource base that poses a big threat in trying to balance the short term and long term needs for sustainable programs. 90% of our funds come from members of the board of directors and the community; and 10% from other partners and well- wishers. If there are any funding prospects, please, let us know, study partnership conditions and see if we can benefit from them. Our wish is not just to get funds from any agencies or individuals but rather to work with them as we build each other. The strategic plan is already in place to guide our efforts and upon which all project proposals are developed. We bank our finances and all contributions with Post Bank Uganda Ltd.
